Ready for the cold!

I am now all ready for the cold weather - and just in time! I crocheted the above hat and mittens in the last few days. They were done in Patons Jet wool and are the first items of clothing that I have crocheted . I was quite pleased with myself, even if I say so myself. There's no stopping me now!!!

The boys are now off school for two weeks holiday. We are not going away anywhere this year, which seems a bit strange as we have gone away at this time of year for the past several years. Not sure how I will occupy them for two whole weeks!!

Reading Group

Our Church has recently started a Reading Group which meets a couple of times a year. The book for this term was Total Church by Tim Chester and Steve Timmis. I found the book interesting and challenging. Although I did not agree with all their ideas about church there were some interesting ideas. I liked the concepts of church as being Gospel-centred and Mission-centred and being very involved in Community. They were rather into church planting in the book, and while that is not always suitable for established traditions, I think the challenge is to think "outside the box" and find ways in which we can "church plant" in different ways and take the gospel message out of our churches and into the communities around us. They also challenged those churches that celebrate anniversaries to look forward as well as backwards. This is very relevant to our Church this year as we celebrate our 125th Anniversary. The challenge is how to continue to bring the gospel to people and to look forward to the next 125 years!!!!

A Victorian Gentleman

A fine Victorian gentleman - Andrew all dressed up for his Victorian Tea Party at school.



His class has been doing the Victorians as a topic this term and last Friday they held a Tea Party in the school for parents. It was a lovely afternoon with tea and cakes. As entertainment they then sang some songs, including Daisy Daisy, and Pack up your troubles. It was great afternoon.

I have been reading a lot recently while I have been getting better.

I quite enjoyed this autobiography of Jule Walters, it was fun and easy to read. I loved her film 'Educating Rita'.




This is a book I picked up at the Keswick Convention this year (and actually read in the same year!!!). Kay Warren tells of her journey of surrender to God and her growing awareness and involvement with AIDS in Africa project. It is a very thought provoking book.

Recuperating

My operation went well and I am now recuperating!! My sister came down to visit and brought along Flamingo to keep me company. The Flamingo has a bag inside it which you heat in the microwave - it was great to cuddle into, especially when my shoulder was sore. It is always strange how different parts of you hurt!! I am feeling a lot better, still tender and get tired quickly, but definately on the mend.



As I have not done any scrapping this month, here are some LOs I did for my friends wedding that we went to in August.

A short break

Not that I am a very regular blogger anyway but I will need to take a short break from blogging as I go into hospital tomorrow for an operation. I have gall stones which are very bothersome and painful at times!, so the gall bladder is coming out tomorrow - keyhole and day surgery!!! So hopefully it will not be too long before I am back. I have lots of knitting and books and DVDs lined up for the next couple of weeks.

Also I treated myself last week and have bought an ipod Touch so I can listen to music wherever I am. Having trouble at the moment keeping the boys away from it and reminding them that it is MINE and not theirs! but they will learn.

Flowers

The last three days have been very hectic ones. Our Church is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year and decided to have a Flower Festival as part of the celebrations. The theme was "Church and Community" with floral arrangements to celebrate both the life of the church and community. The ladies from the Floral Art Club were helping with some of the arrangements.

Well they needed an arrangement from the Sunday School, well all the other teachers looked at me! Never one to refuse a challenge I agreed, but said the title needed to be changed to Children and Young People. I did manage to persuade a couple of others to help me. Between us we managed to come up with this arrangement.

I wanted the arrangement to be bright and cheery, so chose bright coloured flowers. I decided to hang some CDs as a mobile and have some musical instruments as well. All the arrangements had bible verses to go along with them. Ours was "From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise" Psalm 8:2.


Of course there had to be a teddy there too!

We built a Duplo wall round a container to hold one of the arrangements.

Not bad for our first venture into floral art - perhaps a new hobby in the making!!

Dr Who

On Saturday we went to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum to see the Doctor Who exhibition. We had a great time. There were lots of exhibits from all the series, including cybermen and of course, daleks.

If you are able to visit it then do so - it is on until January next year. We might even manage another visit sometime!
