Learn Something New Week 1

I decided to be sensible and realistic - there was no way I was going to blog something new for every day for the whole month, so I decided to do a post once a week about some things I learned that week. This post was supposed to be done yesterday but ...

The first thing I learned this week I don't have a photo for - but I really need to get myself organised again - with up to date diary system and a to do list, and also to actually programme time into the week for crafting and not feel bad about it.

It was sunny again this past week, (well some days), so I went along to St Andrew Square for my lunch, which is where I took this photo. I learned that it is good to be able to get out and to sit in a nice place with flowers.

I reminded myself that I am lucky to have a job when so many don't. It might not the job I would like or that challenges me very much, but it is a job. So a photo of my desk.

This plant used to live in the study at home but just grew and grew until it got too big, so I have taken it into the office where it is thriving. The lesson - sometimes you have to move things or let them go to enable them to survive and grow.

These next two photos are along similar lines - we took John back to St Andrews for his second year at University. This year he is sharing a house with 3 other blokes. So the next step for him on his road through life. And me - well I didn't actually cry this year when we left him, but it still feels a bit strange leaving him, but I am more sure he will cope this year, after all he managed last year!

This next photo was a lovely surprise - some lovely bits and pieces through the mail from Bernice. Just what I need to inspire me to get crafting again on my 12 months in view, now that we are in Autumn. Thanks Bernice.

This last one is a lovely prayer that I received as part of the Prayer Swap at HeArt and Soul forum. It is now hanging up on my pin board. It is good to have online friends.

So that's a few of the things I have learned this past week - have you learned anything you would like to share?

Learn Something New 2013

Its almost September again so it must be time for Shimelle's Learn Something New every day class. You can read about on her blog here. I did the first LSN but surely it can't be 7 years ago now. I went checking on my blog and I only started blogging in 2007 so that was after the first class. The first year was about the only time I actually completed the whole class I think - I must go check out my mini books to see.

I was wondering this year about trying to do the class using blog entries,  as I know that there is no way I will complete an actual scrapbooking project every day (and I have so many unfinished projects needing my attention). I might try and take a photo each day to link in with the theme - still pondering this one.

What about you - are you joining in this year? Have you joined in in the past?

More Pages

I know that we are now into October but I thought I would still try and finish my LSN book on the theme of being thankful. I did make some notes during the month of September and am now trying to finish the pages - not necessarily in date order though!

On day 12 I was very organised and have booked our holidays for next July, we are going to this house isn Beadnell, Northumbria. The house is just across the road from the beach - so I hope we get some better weather next year.

For Day 15 I thought about the telephone and how good it is to talk and catch up with people, I had a nice long conversation with a friend I haven't spoken to in a while and it was good to hear all the news.

For Day 16 I was thankful that despite the rain and being planted a bit late my sunflowers have eventually flowered!

Jumping to Day 20 I had to call out the doctor to see Mum who wasn't very well - and they came really quickly, so I thought it would be good to be thankful for the doctors and nurses. Mum is a bit better now but still rather tired.

LSN Day 11, 13 & 14

Playing catch up with Learn Something New - but I did notes throughout the month so I could make the pages now.
Day 11 was the first night of our Christianity Explored course at Church and our CY Youth course, we had a good turnout at each, for which we were thankful.

Day 13 was that I am very thankful for my family.

Day 14 was Communion at Church, always a busy day for us, so I wanted to take some time and remember what it is about.

Yes I do know I have missed out Day 12 - only because I need to print out a photo and I have run out of photo paper - so will need to go shopping tomorrow, then I can get on with the rest of the month.

LSN Day 9 & 10

I know I'm still a bit behind, but I have managed another two pages for Learn Something New.
Day 9 was that Good Friends are worth having - I had a lovely lunch out that day with a close friend.

Day 10 - Andrew was looking for CDs of different types of music to take into school, this made me think of how dull life would be without music. I choose a picture of Mamma Mia as I thought this was a great film when I saw it and like listening to the soundtrack (and singing along!!).

LSN Day 7 & 8

Day 7 for Learn Something New was a reminder that I'm Special because God loves me. This was the theme for Sunday School today so I thought it would be good to make a page about it.

Day 8 was a reminder to myself that God will guide us in the right direction. There seems to be so much going on in my life at the moment that clear guidance and direction is much looked for.

LSN Day 4, 5 6

My next three LOs for Learn Something New - I am now only 3 days behind.
Day 4 I went to the cinema to see WALL-E, which I thought was a really good film with lots of 'deep and meaningful' bits in it. WALL-E shows how one person, however small, can make a huge difference and that sometimes its OK to think differently from the crowd.

I have recently started knitting again after not having done any for years, so my first project is to finish the cardi I promised my hubbie many years ago. For Day 5 I put that I am thankful for the ability to knit and to create.

On Day 6 I visited my chiropodist, and its great how wonderful my feet feel again! I always say I will take more care of them but then life gets in the way again.

Learn Something New

I have decided to Learn Something New again this year with Shimelle. I did this class two years ago and really enjoyed it, but couldn't get into it last year. I have decided to do it again this year and to try and do a LO on something to be thankful for each day, to keep the album Positive as that is my word for the year.

Day 1 was to be thankful for the birds and butterflies that come to visit my garden.

Day 2 was to be thankful that the Bible Study and Prayer Group have started up again after the sumer break, it is good to meet together with other Christians.

Day 3 was to be thankful for DVDs of favourite TV shows and to be able to watch them with the kids. Andrew was off school on this day and we watched two episodes of Dr Who together.

Learn Something New

This September, I'm going back to school. In my own little world. I've got a book and a pen and I'm going to record what I learn from life. I believe I really can learn something new every day. I'll share what I'm learning in the form of pages from my book, posted right here on my blog.
I'm not alone: lots of crafty ladies are learning and recording right along with me. See their work here and here. Learn more about our project here.

This is Shimelle's latest class, I did it last year and actually managed to complete the book! So I decided to give it a go again this year. Although haven't actually started it yet! But never fear I will get there. I am still off work this week and got some more antibiotics from the doc - so hopefully I will start to feel better soon.
