Pentecost Cakes

Yesterday was Pentecost when the Church celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit. On Saturday we had our Messy Church with the theme of Pentecost so we needed tongues of fire cakes! The children all got to decorate a cupcake and these are some that I made for tea after the Sunday service.

Back to backing

Over the past few days I have been getting back into baking and cooking, which I enjoy but haven't time for recently. This is something I am going to do more often as I find it relaxing - my family are rather happy about this as well.

I also made pumpkin bread and muffins but forgot to take a photo of them!

Finding Fun Wk 3

Over at Carolyn's blog Finding Fun Week 3 was about having fun in the kitchen. So of course we had to make something to eat! Yesterday Andrew and I decided to do some simple iced biscuits as we seem to have a lot of packets of digestive biscuits in the cupboard - they must have been on special offer some time. We did make a lot more than these six but they were eaten before I could take a photo. Will need to make some more soon!

Cake & Napkins

 At school today Andrew made this lovely cake and it tastes lovely! He is definately making the Easter cake this year now!!

As part of 52 Playdates a Napkin Swap was organised, which I thought was a great idea. These are the first two lots of napkins I have received. Most of  the other participants are from either the USA or Australia so I am looking forward to received lots of different napkins to the ones I can get here.

Pancakes for tea

A day late I know with the photos but yesterday we had pancakes for tea!

Haven't been up to much this last week as I have had a rotten cold - still feeling very tired and a bit sniffly.

Slipped a little!

Oh dear I have slipped a bit this week with making pages for my Gratitude album and Art Every Day Month. My sister we here for a few days at the beginning of  last week. Instead of doing some creative art I did some creative baking instead and made this cake. She brought back some lovely sock wool from Germany so I have been some sock knitting every night.

I have been doing the volunteer training with Citizens Advice Bureau and really enjoying it, so that took up Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

Then on Friday the womens Guild had a display in the Library. Each local Guild had a table and we displayed some info about all the national projects the Guild support. Each year the Guild raise a phenomenal amount of money.

On Friday night our church had a quiz, our team won - hurrah!

I have had a lot to be thankful for this week - family, baking, work of the Guild, work of projects, winning the quiz. Hoping to be able to make some pages this week, although we are getting a new shower in tomorrow and a new carpet in the dining room on Tuesday!

School's Out

for Summer. Yes the boys finished today for eight weeks holidays and of course it was raining buckets! I do hope the sun comes back. We thought we needed cake to celebrate so I baked this

I had a go at some needle and wet felting today and I made this

It was a multi-coloured bit of roving which I needle-felted, then wet felted to firm it up a bit and then finished off with some needle felting to shape it again. I thought it would make a nice trinket bowl for putting rings or earrings in.

This weekend I am off to here for a weekend of relaxation and pampering. I am going with a friend - we are off to celebrate our 50th birthdays - hers was last June and mine is August this year, so we thought we deserved a treat.

This is why I scrapbook

Shimelle has a really interesting video on the reasons why she scrapbooks here I thought I would share with you some of the reasons why I scrapbook.

First I scrapbook because its fun, if I didn't enjoy it I would stop. I also enjoy being part of several on-line scrapping communities and have made friends through scrapbooking.

I scrapbook mainly for myself, I don't necessarily think about what will happen to my scrapbooks when I am no longer here - that's for the boys to decide!!! I have made a couple of special mini-books for them for special events - like one for John's years at primary school and for his trip to London.

I think scrapbooking is a good way to tell stories and is an interesting way to keep photos, although I do still keep other photos in a traditional photo album.

I find it fun to experiment a bit with all the different types of pretty paper and paint etc that you can get nowadays - although am definately trying to use up my existing stash before adding to it.

I have recently tried to incorporate my faith into my scrapping.

If you are a scrapbooker why do you scrapbook?

It's Friday today, so I though I had better bake some cakes for the weekend. I made these and they taste yummy!!

Thankfully all the snow from yesterday has now gone - we are just back to rain!!

Friday Baking

This is one of the books I got for Christmas. It really is a lovely book and has lots of yummy sounding and looking recipes in it for all sorts of cakes - scones, bread, sponges, muffins etc.

Today felt like a scone day, cold and icy, so I made some of these for tea.

Everyone thought they tasted great with butter and jam, and want to know what I'm baking next.

Good job I have started going back to the gym then. I went back today, for the first time in 4 months, and was pleased with how I got on. Aiming to go three times a week from now on!

the wizard, the wonderful Wizard of Oz!! Yes it's Cybercrop time again over at UKS and the theme this time is the Wizard of Oz. I am in the ToTos team - Go ToTos Go!!! I have done really done much scrapping for ages so I am hoping the the classes and challenges will inspire me and help me find my mojo again.

I decided that I was feeling a bit better this morning so thought I would bake a cake as it was a Friday. The kids thought that was a great idea when they came home from school and discovered there would be cake for tea - maybe I should do this more often.

This morning I got a very welcome delivery from Amazon

I think the Twilight series of books are great and am looking forward to seeing how the story ends (no don't tell me!!). They are a great light read for me just now when I am spending so much time with my feet up! Although now that I have started it, stopping to join in with the cybercrop might be difficult.

This is something that I have been trying to do during this class as I have realised how good it is to have some comments.
