A walk around Edinburgh

On one of the rare summer days we have had recently we decided to go into town and explore a bit of our new home. It is Festival time here in Edinburgh, so it is really busy, but if you are not in a hurry to get anywhere then it can be fun.

We found this pillar box painted gold for the Olympic Gold Medal winner from Edinburgh.

The Olympic rings outside the Assembly Halls.

One of the many market stall areas that are around Edinburgh at the moment.

Scavenger Hunt

Some more scavenger hunt photos:

4. A roadside stand selling something:

7.  A person playing a musical instrument - I thought this was a very different way to play the guitar.

10. A horse

1. A pier

I still have 10 items to get on the list. If you are playing along how are you getting on?

More Scavenging

Some more photos for Rinda's Scavenger Hunt:

3. A border - this is the border sign on the motorway as you come back into Scotland

2. A clothesline. I am having great trouble getting clothes dry here in my new house. There is no whirligig to hang clothes up on and no real garden to speak of - just some very overgrown bushes. So I have resorted to hanging washing up on my clothes airer which I then put out on the patio!!

6. A historical landmark - The Scott Monument in Princess Street, Edinburgh

I will have some more photos tomorrow for the scavenger hunt.

Summer Scavenger Hunt

13. A library

11, A shadow - we managed to take this on one of the few sunny days we have had this year.

12. A maze, labrynth or trail  this is a trail at Whinlatter near Keswick

19. An outdoor staircase

Holidays

Last week we managed to get away for a well deserved holiday and some rest. We went to Keswick in the Lake District - a favourite place of ours. It was Convention time which meant that the boys could go to meetings both morning and evening, while Gordon and I went for coffee in the morning - although we did go to the evening meetings. Some photos of the week

We are now back into the swing of things. On Thursday night Gordon was inducted into the charge of Craiglockhart Parish Church in Edinburgh - it was a lovely evening, with some great preaching and speeches,  and fellowship. Tomorrow is his first Sunday in his new church.

Boxes Boxes...

everwhere! Most of them have now been unpacked but not all yet. I am so thankful to have a large double garage for storage space and that is where the remaining boxes are. No photos of our new house yet but perhaps next week. The move went well - Pickfords were great!! The right furniture and possessions went to storage and the rest came with us. It is a much smaller house we are in, but it is only temporary - although sometimes this last week it has felt like trying to push an elephant into a mini car. Now if only it would stop raining!!!!

Goodbyes

Goodbyes are seldom easy and this week has seen a few goodbyes. On Sunday we said goodbye to our congregations where we have been for the last 12 years - not easy. They gave us some lovely gifts, of which these are a couple

Today was the last day of school, so I said goodbye to my work colleagues and to the children. Although I have only actually worked there for the last 12 weeks, I have been associated with the school for the last 12 years, as my children went there. Again not easy. But they did give me this great gift - a 'flitting survival kit' containing all the things you need most when moving house - tea, coffee, cake, chocolate.

We are almost ready now to move. Pickfords come on Monday to start packing and by the end of next week we should be safely into our new, albeit temporary, home. A lot of our furniture and possessions are going into storage (including all my scrapbooking stuff -eek)  as we hope this move will not be for too long before a new manse can be purchased.

All ready to start with some new beginnings.
