Letter Love Lesson 8

Lesson 8 was  about doing another type of grid. The first one I did with the only two Tombow markers that I have, some pen lines and then writing on the top. It is a good job it was a practice one as there are some spelling mistakes in it.

I prefer this second one, which I did using watercolour pencils and my water brush.

I am enjoying the class, just don't seem to have a lot of time at the moment to do it.

Pippa, who has been doing the class has some great art work on her blog and also a fantastic give-away - a Parallel Pen. I have yet to get one of these to have a play. Why not go check her blog out.

A Pause in Lent 1

As I enjoyed joining in with Floss's A Pause in Advent I thought I would join in with her again for A Pause in Lent. This year Floss and Ang of Tracing Rainbows have come up with a list of suggested words/themes for us to follow over the next six weeks in the run-up to Easter.

Valour: Pursuit of Knowledge
Generosity: Pursuit of Charity
Liberality: Pursuit of Will
Diligence: Pursuit of Ethics
Patience: Pursuit of Peace
Kindness: Pursuit of Love
Humility: Pursuit of Modesty

These are based on the cardinal and theological virtues. I am not going to go into the historical significance of them or how they came into being - if you are interested in that there is always Google!
I am merely going to make some thoughts on each one over the coming weeks. To make is easier (I think) on myself I am also going to take them in the order listed. So that makes today's thoughts about Valour:Pursuit of Knowledge.

When we think of knowledge we often think about the attainment of facts, learning more about something or someone, knowing lots of things - so if we learn lots of facts about God and the Bible then we will know Him, right - wrong!! Knowledge of God is more than learning facts about Him. We read in Proverbs 1:7 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge".  We need to know God by being in a relationship with Him. Knowing God is more than merely learning things about Him, we need to get to know him in a personal way. I hope that during this journey through Lent that I will come to know Him better and to have a greater knowledge of our wonderful God.

As my daily reading throughout Lent I am using this book by Tom Wright

Letter Composition

The next lesson in Letter Love was about Letter Composition. We had to do a couple of alphabets that connected in some way with each other. The first one is a copy of the one Joanna did in the class and the second one is more of my interpretation.

Thursday 23 February 2012

I have joined Joanne Sharpe's Class Letter Love and am loving it. Needless to say I am way behind everyone else, but am trying not to stress and just have fun and as we have access to the class materials for ever then there is no great panic! The class is all about different types of lettering and using pens etc.

This is my Letter Love practice journal - and boy do I need practice!

This is my first proper whimsy grid, done in my Letter Loving journal. No I am not showing you the practice one!!! It was fun to do and I think I will be doing some more of these.

Pancakes for tea

A day late I know with the photos but yesterday we had pancakes for tea!

Haven't been up to much this last week as I have had a rotten cold - still feeling very tired and a bit sniffly.

Brrr it's cold

Well the weather has turned decidedly chilly in February, although we have not had any of the snow that other parts of the country have had. So I thought I had better knit myself a hat (just in case). I also knitted a cowl to keep my neck warm, the cowl still needs to be blocked I think. I used New Lanark Double Knitting.

The February ATC challenge was to use some fibre of some sort - so I used some of my fibres to make a needle felted heart. I do like needle felting so must try and do some more. Have never yet tried wet felting but you never know...

Not sure about this one

This is my offering for Week 4 of Doodles Unleashed and I am really not too sure about this one at all. It is the first time I have tried to do a face of any kind and I think maybe I need a lot more practice. I think mine looks more like Medusa than girlie glam - but never mind. I have had great fun doing this course and would certainly like to explore more of these techniques - so watch this space.

Over at HeART&Soul we are having an ATC swap running throughout the year. These are the two ATCs I have made for it so far, December and January. Each month there is to a technique, for December it was masking and for January it was bling.
