A Pause in Advent 2

Today's Advent Box in Church contained a surprise - a chocolate egg! Not what you would normally expect at Christmas time, we normally have chocolate eggs at Easter time! The first Christmas brought many surprises. Mary was surprised when the angel visited her and told her she would have a baby. The wise men were surprised to find the King born in a lowly manger. The shepherds, outcasts of their day, were surprised to be included in such a wondrous event. Christmas and Easter are linked together, the baby born in the manger was foretold as was his sacrifice for each one of us. We need to remember that God often surprises us in many ways and that the cross lies behind the manger!

That's a clever idea - really gets you thinking. It's part of the 'wonder' I'm thinking about in my post, I guess - when I held my baby son for his first Christmas it really hit me as amazing that God would be born in a tiny human body, and grow up and die for us... incredible.

Hi Fiona!
I find myself thinking about the cross AND the manger, too. Have a great week!

I pray that we might all experience the surprise and wonder of both Advent and Christmas - surprised by God's grace.

Thank you

The surprise of Christmas, indeed! Such wonder at such a dark time of the year. My daughter is a January child, so one Christmas I was quite great with child myself and so full of anticipation and joy over the holiday and the baby soon to join our family. I still remember being church on Christmas day, feeling her kick.
